App privacy
ShotClear OBP privacy policy.
How ShotClear handles screenshots on your device, Android permissions, recoverable Trash and planned licence verification.
Last updated: 28 October 2026 · Development-stage policy. Review again before public release.
Who we are
This policy covers ShotClear OBP, developed by Odd Bear Productions Ltd (company number SC906219, registered in Scotland), trading as Odd Bear Productions. For privacy requests, contact support@oddbear.co.uk.
What ShotClear accesses on your phone
With your permission, ShotClear identifies screenshots in the supported Android media locations that it monitors. It reads local image previews, Android media references and creation dates so it can show the Scheduled and Kept galleries, calculate expiry and process only eligible screenshots. It stores local app settings such as your chosen retention period, monitoring state and Keep/protection choices. Only screenshots in its monitored scope are eligible for automatic or manual cleanup; unrelated photos are not targets.
Screenshot contents and thumbnails are processed on your device. They are not uploaded to Odd Bear Productions for screenshot management. The development version does not require an OBP account, cloud screenshot storage, third-party advertising or OBP usage analytics.
Screenshot retention and Android Trash
The default retention setting is 24 hours, with other time settings available or planned. Marking an image Keep Permanently excludes it from scheduled or manual clearing while that protection remains set. If you request Clear unkept, ShotClear asks for confirmation and rechecks eligible screenshots before proceeding. When permitted, it asks Android to move selected screenshots to recoverable Trash, not permanently erase them. Android and the device's gallery or media provider decide how long a trashed item remains recoverable.
Android may require a system confirmation, and scheduled background work can run late or be blocked. If access is denied, the move cannot be verified or Trash is unavailable, ShotClear must leave the image unchanged and report that the operation was not confirmed. It does not silently switch to permanent deletion.
Permissions and background behaviour
- Photos and screenshots: permission to discover and review eligible images using Android media access, subject to the access granted.
- Move to Trash: Android's media modification/Trash request and approval mechanisms, which may display a confirmation prompt.
- Display over other apps: optional Quick Keep floating star, enabled only when you choose that feature. The star briefly appears following a detected screenshot so you can protect it.
- Foreground service and notifications: Quick Keep may require a foreground service and an Android service notification or Active apps indicator. Notification visibility and controls depend on Android version and settings.
- Background scheduling: Android may defer or restrict checks; the selected expiry is not a promise of immediate removal.
You can disable monitoring or Quick Keep in ShotClear and review or revoke Android permissions from your device settings. Some features stop working if necessary access is revoked.
Planned free allowance and purchase verification (not active in the development build)
ShotClear's approved commercial model is 50 free confirmed individual screenshot Trash moves per recognised device for life, then an optional one-time lifetime purchase. Manual and scheduled cleanups will share that quota; cancelled, unsuccessful or unverified moves will not use it. The current development build does not yet connect to or enforce this server-side model.
When the licensing update is implemented, the app is planned to send its app identifier, a device-scoped Android identifier, one-time request identifiers, Google Play Integrity attestation and, when buying or restoring, purchase tokens over HTTPS to a first-party service hosted by Cloudflare at oddbear.co.uk. The service will pseudonymise the device identifier with a server-held secret before storing a per-device quota balance, approved operation records and purchase entitlement. This aims to stop an ordinary reinstall from resetting the 50 free uses. It will not receive screenshot images, filenames, media URLs, or screenshot content. Google processes Play Integrity and payment/purchase checks under Google's privacy policy. Cloudflare processes request metadata such as IP addresses for hosting and security; short-lived pseudonymous rate limits may be used.
The planned quota ledger must remain available as needed to enforce a lifetime per-device allowance and restore purchases. Exact retention/deletion rules and the app's Google Play Data Safety declarations will be finalised and published before that feature is released. We will update this policy to reflect verified processing, not merely proposed processing.
Retention, requests and your rights
Local app records can be removed by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling. That does not automatically restore screenshots already moved into Android Trash. Android and Google may hold their own system and purchase records under their policies. If you email us for support, we receive the address and information you send, keep it as reasonably needed to deal with the enquiry and applicable obligations, and periodically review it for removal. Please do not email screenshots containing sensitive information unless necessary.
You can ask about access, correction, erasure or other applicable rights by contacting support@oddbear.co.uk. Depending on the circumstances, UK privacy law may apply. You may also raise concerns with the UK Information Commissioner's Office.
Children and changes
ShotClear is a general-purpose screenshot utility, not specifically designed for children. This policy will be reviewed before Google Play release and whenever relevant app permissions or data practices change.
